MEMBER MEETING SURVEY RANKINGS AND FEEDBACK
Sorry this has taken a bit long to get back to you, but I have been swamped and I wanted to take some time to digest all of it. So let’s get right into it. What follows are the survey questions with your averaged scores and my comments.
Lots of members really liked the hotel and said they would love to come back. A few said the food was good, several said the food was not so good. However, this score is consistent with our past hotel choices which ranked quite high.
MEMBER MEETING SURVEY COMMENTS
Every year at our Annual Meeting we ask for comments on our Meeting Survey Sheets. I will summarize these for you here and add some of my comments. Due to the number of comments, not all of your individual comments could be shared. Some comments refer to issues that we have addressed before; I may not take the time address it here again. These are in no particular order.
FUTURE MEETING LOCATIONS
24 members commented on this and interestingly enough Africa came out with the most votes at 5, then Mauritius at 4 and Bali with 3. Australia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Macau, Sri Lanka, China and Vietnam all had 2 each. A couple of members wouldn’t mind returning to Phuket.
It seems we get our best meetings when we mix a nice resort, with a beach and a chance to unwind. We’ve talked about this as a group and the comments I got back from Phuket are consistent with this.
The overall consensus was that members would be willing to pay more for hotel rooms than the $150.00 a night guideline I now use, if it meant better locations and accommodations. Again, the number mentioned most often was $200.00.
I try to subscribe to the idea that it is best to move the meeting around from year to year. However, I also look carefully at value for the money. Given that this last meeting was the least expensive of all our meetings, I didn’t think returning to Phuket would be difficult, in fact it was well received. One reason, of course, was that we had a lot of new members this year. In this upcoming year, I will again try to move our location with these goals in mind.
Our current schedule has us starting with a cocktail party on Wednesday evening and ending Saturday. Unfortunately, we had quite a fall off in attendance on Saturday. Due to the drop off of attendance and comments by several members, we are looking at changing this format for the upcoming year. I will survey the members and the advisory board in regards to some new formats.
This was already touched on in the Survey results and I agree the entertainment at the Gala Dinner was lacking. Please see my comments on the Survey Rankings Report.
ONE ON ONE MEETINGS
This year we tried something new and it didn’t work. In the past we would change our room set up from class room style to round table for the One on One Meetings. This year, we started with round tables and didn’t change them. However, the round tables were too large. The overwhelming feedback was that it didn’t provide enough privacy and too many meetings were scheduled at the same table. We will not repeat this mistake again. Next year we will either have much smaller rounds or class room style seating with more spacing.
There were a number of members who wanted more presentations from members about their business. Certainly we can invite our host, when we have one, to do a presentation and in fact we often extend this invitation. It is very difficult to ask every member to give a short presentation about their company as we just do not have the time for this and as we continue to grow, this can really get out of hand. New members get a chance to do this at the new member orientation, but I understand that the rest of the membership is not a part of this and does not get this opportunity. We will look into ways to include more of this next year.
A number of members asked for presentations relating to sales, methods and techniques. We have done presentations like this in the past, but I am always up for more. We have had outside speakers in the past, in fact we tried last year in Manila, but the feedback was not good.
The idea was put forward that we should do a survey for business passed through the network before the next meeting. I think this is a great idea and we will try it. What we find most times is that we get limited responses from our busy members when we ask for such things. But, I will try this in the upcoming year.
There were a number of good follow up ideas for marketing.
One idea was putting up a profile page of a member on a weekly basis. We have tried versions of this in the past. When we have gone out to members for input, we received very few responses. However, I like the idea of trying to raise profiles so we will see if we can come up with something here.
Another thought was a newsletter among the members sharing information about new projects in particular areas. Again, member feedback is necessary or these things tend to die out. Maybe we can find some other sources for information.
We have often talked about a success bulletin, and this is somewhat difficult if we do not hear from you. We will get more proactive in contacting the members to see what we can generate.
The idea I liked the best is to explore Linked In and Face book as applications for Globalink. As I do not know much about these myself, I will have to defer to some folks around the office, but we will look into this as well.
